Okanagan Equipment Lists

NOTE: Please read the current year’s Okanagan Newsletter on the Downloads webpage of this site (in the right sidebar) for more detailed information about the out-trips. It will provide more information about what to bring.

Personal Health Forms and Consent, Assumption of Risks, and Release Forms MUST be competed in the registration system. Children will not be permitted to begin their program until all forms have been submitted.

Moniteurs give each camper a list for each trip. Please go through it with your children as they could be very uncomfortable if they forget items.

Aventurier and Coureurs des Bois Programs

The following list contains some of the potential equipment needed and should be considered a minimum for off-site excursions. Programs are being developed and this list will be updated and confirmed in the Okanagan Newsletter on the Downloads page. Generally, Aventurier teens will be off-site for two nights and CB teens off-site for three nights.

Equipment:

  • Mountain bike in good working order and bike helmet. We strongly recommend that parents have the bikes serviced in a bike shop making sure that the brakes, gears, and tires are in good working order. If your equipment does not appear safe, you will need to rent equipment or may miss out on scheduled out-trips. Bike gloves may also be useful for lengthy rides.
  • Though teens are not cycling off road, campers need to be familiar and comfortable with their bike for riding longer distances and on varied road surfaces and grades.
  • Large backpack and/or waterproof boat bag, garbage bags to pack gear in (the gear may be transported to the campsites for the kids)
  • Warm sleeping bag and waterproof sleeping pad
  • Water bottle, unbreakable cup, bowl, plate, knife, fork, spoon
  • Small flashlight
  • Inexpensive foldable or telescopic fishing rod (optional)
  • Camera (optional but should be in a waterproof bag)
  • Sunglasses (optional)

Footwear:

  • Good quality running shoes or hiking boots, broken in
  • Water shoes, sandals or old runners for in the water
  • Socks, at least 3 pairs (wool is a natural insulator even when wet)

Clothing:

  • Rain gear or poncho — light weight and waterproof
  • 1-2 pairs long pants, shorts, underclothes, 2 t-shirts, sweatshirt or fleece, bathing suit, towel, sun hat, toque and mitts or gloves (in case it gets rainy or cool), warm sleep clothes

Toiletries:

  • Small towel, wash cloth
  • Medication (discuss this with your moniteurs)
  • Personal toiletry items, soap, shampoo, sunscreen, lip salve with sunscreen, bug spray, Kleenex or toilet paper, toothbrush and toothpaste, wet-ones
  • Band aids, juice boxes, snacks (nice to have but not essential)

Note: Teens are required to bring a bag lunch for each off-site and overnight excursion for eating on route to their destination. For teen groups staying overnight, food will be provided once the destination has been reached.

When Aventurier and Coureurs des Bois is on site, the following will be required daily:

  • small backpack, water bottle, swimsuit, towel, hat, snack,
  • sunscreen, bug spray
